Currency and Payments

The Ugandan Shilling (UGX) is the local currency. While credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants, cash is king in most places. It’s advisable to carry enough money in smaller denominations for everyday transactions.

Uganda's money is the Ugandan Shilling, and it's what you'll use to buy things there. Look for the letters UGX or the symbol Sh to see prices.

When you're in Uganda, you'll use shilling notes and coins for everything. They come in amounts like 1,000 or 50,000 for notes, and 50 to 500 for coins.

You can easily use US Dollars (USD) in Uganda, otherwise it's a good idea to change your money to shillings. This way, you'll know how much you're spending and enjoy your trip without any money worries!

Don't stress about the money stuff. Once you get to Uganda, you'll get the hang of using shillings in no time, and you'll have a great trip!
